The problem
The app had grown over several years and several teams. Screens that looked alike were built three different ways, which made every new feature more expensive than the last one and left accessibility behaviour inconsistent across the product.
Constraints
This is public infrastructure. Releases follow a fixed schedule, the audit trail matters, and a regression does not just annoy users — it blocks people from handling their health insurance business. A rewrite was never an option; the work had to happen alongside normal feature delivery.
What I did
Which patterns you standardised, what you deliberately left alone, where you traded elegance for shipping safety, and what you would do differently now. This is the section hiring managers read most closely, because it is the only place where your judgement is visible rather than your output.
Outcome
Screens migrated, defects avoided, review time saved. Concrete beats impressive — a small verified number is worth more than a large vague claim.
